GROUP NEWS JULY 2010

Please contact the Leader before joining a group because some could be full.

Join in the social event of the year, come to the picnic on 31st August 2010 as a group and have a pleasant time.

Your Group Leader has all the information.

Our Magazine is produced three times a year but because Group Information changes more frequently, a Group News Sheet is produced each month.

It can be obtained at the General Meeting or through your Group Leader.

If you do not receive this information, ask your group leader Why

Group Leaders:

PLEASE PLEASE COMMUNICATE.

Recently I asked all Group Leaders to let me know whether their group is full or whether there is space.

   75% did NOT reply.

I need to know whether we should be looking to set up additional groups.

It is not very pleasant for new members to join us and then find they can’t get into a group.

If you don’t tell me we don’t know what we need to do.

EXISTING GROUPS

FRENCH REVISITED

Our thanks go to Graham Edmunds who has led this successful group in recent years and has now stepped down in order to take an active part in the formation of the new Towcester U3A.

Annette Candy 01604 820383 has taken over as the new leader.

PC HELPMATES

We would also like to say thank you John Bream for very ably leading this group which has been enjoyed by members for some time.

Dinah Knapp 01604 890993  will be taking over as the new Leader

SWIMMING Peter Harker 01604 696164

The Swimming Group should recommence in September when Eileen, the lifeguard, has fully recovered.

NEW GROUPS

CRYPTIC CROSSWORDS

Pam Fraser 01604 845263

This new group will be meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 10.30 a.m. –
12.00 at the leader’s home, starting on July 20th.

It will be an informal group where it is hoped members will share ideas and expertise on how
to solve various cryptic crosswords.

You don’t need to be an expert, just have an interest in these types of crosswords and an ambition to get better at them.

GREEN BOWLING

Tony Bignall 01604 408155

This brand new group still has room for a few new members.

They will meet on a Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Abington Park.

Frequency to be decided.

It will cost £2 per person per hour and if you need to hire bowls an additional £1.

Flat soled shoes only.

Ring Tony for more details.

GROUPS WE HOPE TO FORM

MODERN GREEK – GUITAR PLAYING –
ASTRONOMY

Some new members have expressed an interest in the above subjects.

Are any members interested and could anyone lead or co-ordinate the Groups.

Contact Helen or Marie

SHORT HOLIDAYS

Some people are interested in group holidays.

Could you help by running this group?

I understand that there are several companies who will organise holidays of choice, it just needs someone to co-ordinate and liaise.

This takes the worst of the work away and will make it an enjoyable thing to do.

WHIST DRIVES

Do you enjoy playing whist and would you like to get together with other like minded people.

First of all we need someone to co-ordinate the whole thing.

Please get in touch if you are interested.

1st Meeting at The Turner Suite, Northampton Cricket Club 28th April 2009.

and what a tremendous meeting we had !!!

attended by a record 222 members !!!

We are aware that we had a few teething problems ( parking, tea service and band ) but your committee are addressing these problems with the Cricket Club looking for assurance that these problems will never happen again in the future !!!

So, now let us look on the positive side and try to beat our attendance record at the next meeting.

( We were very close to beating this at our January 2010 meeting with 210 ) !!!
