"The group will cover the causes and effects of WW1, the battles and conditions the men lived through as well as the social history.

Recent subjects covered have been The Treaty of Versailles, the role of women in the war, The Labour Corp and WW1 poetry.

There will be an emphasis on people's family experience during the conflict and helping with research for military relatives who fought in the war.

We actively encourage other U3A members who do not belong to the group to share their WW1 stories and memorabilia with us.

Topics to be discussed and researched in the next few months include local heroes Walter Tull and Edgar Mobbs, The Royal Navy, developments of medicine 1914-1918 and local war memorials"
