We hope in future to run one outing a month with the exception of perhaps January and December.
The visits will usually be to Historic Houses, Castles, Museums, Galleries, gardens, historic towns and well known beauty spots.
We have two pick up points in Northampton from Christchurch Rd and Victoria St.
I love to hear people's suggestions for outings and will try to arrange them if possible.

Members are required to pay by cheque when booking, and to include a stamped and addressed envelope for their confirmation slip.
If you put your names down for trips and then change your minds, please let the Leaders know rather than them having to chase you !!!
And of course it stops others getting places if you book and then do not go.

"St Albans and Verulamium Museum"

Our first trip of the year is to St Albans.
Included in the price is a tour of the Cathedral and the Verulamium Museum which is on the site of one of the major cities in Roman Britain which is now an attractive park.
There will be free time to look around St Albans and perhaps do some shopping.
(includes tours at both venues)

"The Olympic Sites Tour"
Tuesday 6th March 2012
This is the tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the U3A in Northampton and is a visit to Olympic London.
We will have coffee in Stratford and pick up our guide who will give us the history of past Olympics held in London.
We will then go to have a viewing of the Olympic Park.
We are not allowed to enter the site for security reasons.
We will then have a roast beef lunch in a London pub.
After lunch we will drive along the Olympic River Zone and cross to see Woolwich Barracks which is the site of more events.
The tour will end at the Gun Pit café, Woolwich Barracks with the chance of a cuppa before we leave for home. This is not included in the price.
This will be a long day but a once in a lifetime opportunity.
(includes morning coffee and Roast beef lunch)

"Kelmscott Manor & Lechlade"

Our third visit of the year is to Lechlade on Thames and Kelmscott Manor.
Lechlade is a small attractive riverside town on the edge of the Cotswolds.
After lunch we go to Kelmscott Manor, the summer home of William Morris.
Morris loved the house “as a work of true craftsmanship, totally unspoilt and unaltered and in harmony with the village and surrounding countryside.”
Included in the price will be tea and cake.
If we have enough time we will visit the church where Morris is buried.

"Lavenham and Melford Hall"
Wednesday 2nd May 2012

For our fourth trip of the year we are heading to Suffolk.
Our first port of call will be Lavenham, England’s finest medieval village, noted for its 15th century church and half timbered cottages.
We then move on to Melford Hall, one of the finest Elizabethan houses in Eastern England with wonderful gardens.
Beatrix Potter visited Melford Hall many times and there are many momentos of her stay there.
Cost will be Nat. Trust Members £13.00 per head.
Non Nat. Trust Members £19.50 per head

"Trentham Gardens"

We are off to Staffordshire today to visit the Trentham Gardens.
There is so much to see and do the choice is yours.
The price includes entrance to the gardens which are a delight especially the Italian Garden.
There are lots of walks, water features, a shopping village and plenty of places to eat.
Cost will be £18.50 per head.

"Highclere Castle"

Well we had to do this- a visit to Downton Abbey better know by its real name Highclere Castle.
It’s been the home of Carnarvan family since 1679.
As well as been renowned for being “Downton” it has a fascinating connection to Ancient Egypt as the 5th earl along with Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.
Included in the price is a tour of the Egyptian Exhibition as well as the house and grounds.
Cost will be £26.00 per head.

"Worcester Cathedral"
Tuesday 14th August 2012

Worcester cathedral is a magnificent sight as it rises majestically above the River Severn and is our destination for August.
As well as beautiful architecture and stained glass windows it has connections to many famous people and that is the tour we are doing today. (King John, Edward Elgar, Stanley Baldwin and Woodbine Willy).
There will be plenty of time to look at this lovely town and perhaps visit the Royal Worcester Museum.
Cost will be £17.50 per head.

"Stokesay Castle and Ludlow"

We have a real treat today, a visit to Ludlow and Stokesay Castle.
Stokesay Castle is quite simply the finest and best preserved fortified medieval manor house in England.
We spend the rest of the day in Ludlow, an absolutely beautiful town from its castle to The Feathers Hotel whose famous timber façade dates from 1619.
The town is a gastronomic centre for England with lots of lovely deli’s and restaurants.
Cost will be £13.50 per head.

"The National Memorial Arboretum"

We are off to the National Memorial Arboretum which is a living and lasting memorial to commemorate and celebrate those who have given their lives in the service of their country and all those who have suffered as a result of conflict.
We will be there in time for the 11 o’clock Rememberance Service

"Covent Garden"

The last trip of the year is to Covent Garden.
There is so much to see and do.
Near by are the London Transport Museum, Somerset House, The Courtauld Institute and the Royal Opera House, all open for visits.
There will be plenty of time for shopping or just to sit and watch the street entertainers from a nice café.
Cost will be £12.50 per head.
