Opera Appreciation

Leader: Arthur Tart
This group meets on the 3rd Monday of each month.
Music from Opera is very popular, with CDs selling in their millions, but this in itself does not do justice to this unique art form.
European Opera is essentially a visual art form and was 'invented' in Florence, Italy in the1590s as a consequence of the Italian Renaissance. A complete Opera acts out a story, with a beginning, middle and end, through music.
At every monthly meeting, using VHS or DVD, with subtitles where appropriate, a complete story will be acted out, through music. Various techniques and conventions used by the librettist and composer are highlighted before and /or after the performance.
A tea or coffee break will be included and the meetings will be from 2.0 until 4.30 or earlier depending on the performance chosen, but no later.
