European History
( Groups 1 & 2 )

Leader: Tony Berry
Deputy : Valerie Waldron
In this group we study topics taken from a period of European history that stretches from Charlemagne to the First World War.
The group meets monthly and in general we manage to cover a topic each month.
Members know the topic in advance and some may before each meeting, undertake their own research and then outline to us all what it is they have discovered.
Others prefer to simply enjoy what it is that their colleagues have uncovered.
All are very welcome and take part in discussions that cover :- major events , the personalities involved, key decisions and their consequences, social, religious and cultural issues and anything else that members wish to explore.
The 1st group meets every second Tuesday of the month at 10-30am, although from time to time this may change in the light of holidays and other matters that would seriously reduce attendance.
The 2nd group also meet on the second Tuesday of every month BUT at 2.00pm
Recent topics considered include
- The Empire of Charlemagne
- The First Crusade
- The Pontificate of Innocent III
- The Thirty Years War
- The Ottoman Empire
Given the many countries of Europe and the wide time span under consideration there is an endless supply of topics for us to consider.
